November 21, 2008: This weekend at Just Imagine Gallery in Tijeras I'm the official guest artist along with Susanna Andrews a wonderful fiber artist. Artist's Statement
When someone holds my pottery, I hope they can experience the joy I felt when making it. This is particularly important in our standardized, mechanized modern society.
Pottery is a medium that consolidates the four basic elements of earth, water, fire, and air. It connects you with the earth in a very direct way. I feel it's important to "listen" to the clay as you throw, trim, decorate, and ultimately fire it. If you have been able to listen closely enough, the piece will be imbued with a combination of your spirit and it's own. It will feel and look alive!
My pieces are influenced by my Mediterranean heritage and my lifetime in the Southwest. I hope that my pieces get used and are enjoyed for the little piece of soul inherent in each one. SG
